Engrave98 Version 2.4 supports for
HPGL controller equipped engraving machines. Following are the steps needed for
engraving with HPGL controller machines:
§ Selecting HPGL
controller and specifying it’s characteristics. To do this, select “General
Settings” menu item from “Settings” menu bar item. You will see the following
dialog on your screen:
From the table model drop down list
select HPGL. Consult the reference manual for your engraving machine and specify
Machine Units /mm, width of the table and height of the table
Select HPGL controller model and
specify X-Offset and Y-Offsets of top left corner of the plate from top left
corner of the machine table. These offsets depend upon the position of the plate
set with respect to top left corner of machine table.
You will not be able to select HPGL controller if
you have not purchased license for HPGL controller support
§ Specification of “Fill
Step Size”. When you select HPGL controller, Engrave98 version 2.4 allows you to
specify Fill Step Size in “More Line attributes dialog” shown
below:
| |
| |
 | You see the “More Line
attributes…” dialog when you edit a line. Fill step size is specified on a scale
of 1 to 10. One specifying smallest step and ten being the largest Fill step. On
most laser engraving machines, you will get the best results by choosing 1 as
Fill step size. In general, for larger tools, you should choose larger “Fill
Step Size” number.
§ Rests of the steps for
engraving are similar to those for other controllers. “Long Plate
Engraving” option is not supported for HPGL controllers.

Engrave98 Version 2.4 now includes
(separately sold option) Spell checking facility. You can invoke the spelling
checker by selecting “Spelling…” menu item from “Edit” drop down menu bar item.
The spell checker would check spellings of words in layout lines. The built in
spell checker has the industry standard user interface similar to Microsoft Word
and other word processing programs.
Engrave98 Version 2.4.2 allows
user to view condensed text summary by choosing Item “View Summary Text
…” from File Menu . Engrave98 generates the condensed summary of the layout and
displays it in window of the Notepad program. You can use Notepads Print command
to print condensed summary text of a layout file. The display format of this
information is similar to that of D14’s List command.

Engrave98Óis
an object oriented software and emphasizes the mouse, not the keyboard (which
can also be used). If you are too busy to read, just remember two things:
·
Pointing the mouse to the
object you are interested (such as a line, a column, a logo, an icon….), with
one click to high lighted it. (See below the moneybag is highlighted.
·
Double left click will
give the attributes of that object such as size, tilt, font etc.., while the
right click will give you a menu to choose from. The rest is
self-explanatory.
